Psoralea corylifolia extract reduces fatty liver disease in liver cells and high-fat diet mice

Updated

Abstract

The 70% ethanol extract of Psoralea corylifolia L. (PCE) significantly reduced lipid accumulation in liver tissues of high-fat diet-fed mice.

  • PCE suppressed lipid accumulation in oleic acid-treated HepG2 cells.
  • Mice fed a high-fat diet for 14 weeks showed reduced lipid accumulation and inflammatory protein expression after 6 weeks of PCE treatment.
  • PCE administration decreased the expression of the lipogenic protein sterol regulatory element binding protein 1-c (SREBP-1c) and fatty acid synthase (FAS) in liver tissues.
  • PCE increased the phosphorylation of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and acetyl-CoA carboxylase, suggesting enhanced metabolic regulation.
