Psychedelic drugs’ effects on brain circuits: an international combined analysis

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Acute psychedelic exposure was linked to a shared reconfiguration of large-scale brain networks across multiple drugs and study sites.

Evidence

This international resting-state fMRI mega-analysis integrated 11 datasets across five psychedelics from groups in three continents and five countries using uniform preprocessing and Bayesian hierarchical modeling.

Caveat

The findings map acute brain connectivity changes and show substantial variability across drugs and networks, so they do not by themselves establish therapeutic mechanisms or clinical outcomes.
