Creating a system to evaluate ways to reduce psychedelic harm at events using mixed research methods

Updated

Abstract

Nineteen pre-event surveys and five post-event surveys were conducted to evaluate the Zendo Project's role in psychedelic harm reduction at large-scale events.

  • The framework for psychedelic harm reduction services positions peer support as a complementary option for individuals experiencing psychological distress.
  • Measurement domains identified include psychological distress burden, preparedness, workload, safety, interprofessional coordination, escalation, and attendee disposition.
  • Respondents reported favorable views on Zendo's operational role, although these perceptions are based on staff estimates rather than independently verified effects.
  • The proposed methodology aims to translate field-based support into measurable outcomes for public health and economic evaluation.
