New Psychotherapy Methods for PTSD Beyond Fear-Focused Treatments
Updated
Abstract
Essence
Emerging PTSD psychotherapies are moving beyond a fear-based model toward memory, somatic, moral injury, identity, spirituality, technology-assisted, and multimodal approaches.
Evidence
This narrative review searched MEDLINE and APA PsycINFO through June 29, 2024 for English-language human clinical studies, guidelines, and reviews on therapist-delivered PTSD psychotherapies not yet endorsed by guidelines.
Caveat
The review thematically maps emerging approaches rather than proving them, and it calls for randomized trials with diverse populations and long-term follow-up.
