How Pueraria Lobata Root May Help Fatty Liver Disease Linked to Metabolic Problems

Updated

Abstract

Pueraria lobata radix (PLR) contains diverse bioactive components that may help combat metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD).

  • PLR is rich in isoflavones, polysaccharides, peptides, and resistant starch.
  • It may regulate liver fat metabolism through multiple pathways including AMPK, PPARs, and mTOR.
  • PLR is associated with improved insulin resistance via the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway.
  • It could alleviate inflammation by inhibiting the JNK/p38 MAPK and NF-κB pathways.
  • PLR demonstrates antioxidant effects and may help reduce liver fibrosis by affecting hepatic stellate cells.
  • The herb shows a favorable safety profile, although caution is advised regarding puerarin injection due to possible adverse reactions.
