Quercetin improves memory problems in obese mice by activating a key cell pathway through the gut-brain connection

Updated

Abstract

Quercetin supplementation at 0.05% significantly reduced HFFD-induced body weight gain in a 10-week mouse model.

  • Quercetin improved serum lipid abnormalities and cognitive performance in obese mice.
  • Dietary quercetin altered gut microbiota composition, notably increasing Akkermansia muciniphila.
  • Restoration of intestinal barrier function was observed with quercetin supplementation.
  • Quercetin regulated serum metabolite profiles and suppressed neuroinflammation.
  • Activation of the hippocampal insulin signaling pathway was indicated by increased expression of p-PI3K, p-Akt, and p-GSK-3β.
  • Quercetin inhibited abnormal tau phosphorylation and neuronal cell death.
