Quick and Easy Test for Detecting Toxoplasma in Blood and Tissue

Updated

Abstract

The REPORT method detects as few as 3.1 tachyzoites/g in tissue samples and 5 tachyzoites/mL in blood samples.

  • The method combines recombinase polymerase amplification with CRISPR/Cas12a for nucleic acid detection.
  • Sensitivity tests indicate a limit of detection of 3.7 copies/μL for target DNA.
  • Specificity tests show the REPORT method does not cross-react with several common parasites.
  • The method achieves 100% accuracy compared to nested PCR for clinical DNA samples.
  • Results can be obtained visually through fluorescence or test strips within 1 hour.
