Radiofrequency electromagnetic fields and their links to tinnitus, migraine, and general symptoms in the general and working populations

Abstract

Analysis of 486,558 participants from 13 studies suggests that RF-EMF exposure below guideline values is not associated with symptoms.

  • The review included case-control and prospective cohort studies focusing on RF-EMF exposure for at least one week.
  • Tinnitus, migraine, headaches, sleep disturbances, and composite symptom scores were the primary areas of investigation.
  • Evidence related to the primary hypotheses is very uncertain, stemming from a low number of studies and potential biases.
  • No specific exposure-outcome associations were observed for non-priority hypotheses regarding RF-EMF exposure and symptoms.
  • Challenges such as confounding control and exposure assessment complicate the interpretation of the results.
