Rapamycin injections at different times affect fear memory updating and may relate to PTSD symptoms

Updated

Abstract

Rapamycin treatment 3 or 12 hours post-reactivation disrupts memory persistence in rodents.

  • mTOR inhibition is associated with blocking retrieval-induced mTOR activity and new protein synthesis.
  • Consecutive days of reactivation combined with rapamycin may have additive effects on disrupting fear memory.
  • Impaired reconsolidation of fear memory from rapamycin treatment does not affect the ability to learn or recall new fear associations.
  • Rapamycin treatment is associated with protection against fear generalization.
