Bovine αs1-casein reduces insomnia-like behavior and body changes caused by PCPA in mice

Updated

Abstract

Recombinant bovine αs1-casein (RC) improved body-weight recovery and open-field performance in a mouse model of insomnia-like abnormalities.

  • RC increased concentrations of brain neurotransmitters, including 5-HT, dopamine, GABA, and glutamate, while reducing norepinephrine levels.
  • High-dose RC reduced serum IL-6 and was associated with better-preserved hippocampal morphology.
  • RC administration led to changes in gut bacteria richness and community structure, indicating a potential link to gut health.
  • The findings suggest an association between RC and improvements in insomnia-like physiological and behavioral abnormalities.
