Lack of REDD1 may reduce podocyte self-destructive cell death and improve cell cleanup in diabetic kidney disease

Updated

Abstract

REDD1 knockout improved renal function and reduced markers related to PANoptosis in diabetic mice.

  • Podocyte loss and death are linked to diabetic kidney disease progression.
  • REDD1 deficiency was associated with decreased mesangial expansion and podocyte injury in diabetic mice.
  • In vitro, REDD1 knockdown reduced high glucose-induced PANoptosis and mitochondrial damage in podocytes.
  • REDD1 deletion restored autophagy and the expression of a key regulator, TFEB, in diabetic kidneys.
  • SFN knockdown or inhibition of RIPK3 alleviated PANoptosis and autophagy dysfunction in podocytes.
