Resolvin E1 and Maresin 1 may restore aging-related decline in gum ligament cell function

Updated

Abstract

D-galactose treatment significantly increased senescence, oxidative stress, and inflammation in primary human periodontal ligament fibroblasts (PDLFs).

  • Senescence in PDLFs was confirmed by increased beta-galactosidase expression after D-galactose treatment.
  • D-galactose exposure delayed wound closure and reduced cell viability and proliferation (p < 0.05).
  • Treatment with resolvin E1 (RvE1) or maresin 1 (MaR1) significantly decreased markers of senescence and inflammation.
  • RvE1 and MaR1 treatment restored cell viability, increased cell proliferation, and accelerated wound closure (p < 0.05).
  • Maresin 1 (MaR1) was found to be more effective than resolvin E1 (RvE1) in reversing senescence and enhancing regenerative effects.
