Daily activity patterns linked to bone strength in older men

Abstract

Pseudo F-statistic is significantly associated with total hip and femoral neck bone mineral density (aBMD).

  • Weaker circadian rhythmicity of rest and activity may correlate with lower total hip aBMD and femoral neck aBMD in minimally adjusted models.
  • The daytime to nighttime activity ratio (alpha statistic) shows a significant association with femoral neck aBMD and its change over four years.
  • After adjusting for lifestyle factors and comorbidities, most associations between rest-activity rhythm and aBMD diminished.
  • No consistent significant associations were found between other rest-activity rhythm variables and aBMD or its changes.
