Resveratrol may reduce diabetes-related heart problems through a specific cell energy and metabolism pathway

Abstract

Resveratrol (800 mg/day) combined with evidence-based nursing improved clinical indicators in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes and diabetic cardiomyopathy.

  • Glucose and lipid metabolism improved in the Resveratrol group compared to the control.
  • Resveratrol treatment reduced levels of inflammatory markers such as TNF-α and IL-6.
  • There was an increase in cardiac function metrics, including left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and fractional shortening (LVFS), in rat models.
  • Resveratrol decreased myocardial apoptosis and fibrosis while enhancing mitochondrial function and autophagy.
  • The SIRT1/PPAR-α/PGC-1 signaling pathway may play a role in the protective effects of Resveratrol.
