Nanoparticles carrying resveratrol protect cells from Parkinson’s-like damage linked to antioxidant system changes

Abstract

Pretreatment with resveratrol-loaded polymeric nanoparticles significantly protected PC12 neuronal cells and astrocytes from rotenone-induced cell death.

  • Cell viability was preserved after treatment with resveratrol-loaded nanoparticles compared to controls.
  • Reactive oxygen species production was reduced in cells pretreated with the nanoparticles.
  • Mitochondrial function was maintained in cells treated with the nanoparticles.
  • Apoptosis was decreased in the presence of resveratrol-loaded nanoparticles.
  • The treatment influenced gene expression related to oxidative stress response, implicating the Keap1/NRF2/ARE pathway.
