Maternal high-fat diet exposure decreased plasma levels of acetate, propionate, and butyrate in offspring.

  • Both maternal and postnatal high-fat diet exposure distinctly altered the gut microbiota metagenome of offspring.
  • Maternal high-fat diet exposure led to reduced plasma levels of acetate, propionate, and butyrate.
  • Postnatal high-fat diet exposure further decreased plasma acetate levels in adulthood.
  • Metabolic dysregulation associated with maternal and postnatal high-fat diets is linked to changes in gut microbiota.
  • Resveratrol treatment improved altered plasma propionate levels and metabolic dysregulation caused by maternal and postnatal high-fat diets.
