Lack of REV-ERBα increases IL-33-driven lung inflammation and airway sensitivity in mice

Updated

Abstract

Loss of REV-ERBα significantly increased the recruitment of immune cells in response to IL-33.

  • REV-ERBα deficiency led to a marked increase in eosinophils, neutrophils, innate lymphoid cells, and Th2 lymphocytes in the lungs.
  • Airway hyperresponsiveness was exacerbated in the absence of REV-ERBα following IL-33 exposure.
  • Chemokines associated with type 2 inflammation were elevated in knockout mice lacking REV-ERBα.
  • Circadian clock protein expression was altered in the absence of REV-ERBα.
  • Enhanced IL-33/ST2 signaling and reduced epithelial barrier-associated proteins were observed in REV-ERBα deficient mice.
