SARS-CoV-2 reinfections and later risk of hospital-diagnosed long COVID in Denmark (2020-2022)

Updated

Abstract

Essence

SARS-CoV-2 reinfection was associated with higher hospital-diagnosed long COVID risk in Denmark, but the absolute increase was small and vaccination lowered risk.

Evidence

This nationwide register-based cohort followed 4,418,544 Danish adults tested from April 1, 2020 to December 31, 2022 and modeled hospital long-COVID diagnoses by infection count and vaccination status.

Caveat

The outcome was hospital-diagnosed PASC rather than all persistent symptoms, and secondary fatigue and headache diagnoses were mostly null.
