Testing the SARS-CoV-2 antibody AER002 in Long COVID: an early randomized trial to understand how it works

Updated

Abstract

A total of 36 participants with Long COVID received a single infusion of the SARS-CoV-2-specific monoclonal antibody AER002.

  • AER002 was found to be safe and well tolerated among participants.
  • No significant differences were observed in physical health, quality of life, or cognitive function between treatment and control groups.
  • Exploratory analyses indicated that participants with lower baseline SARS-CoV-2 antibody levels and higher drug exposure reported perceived treatment benefits.
  • The primary endpoint, assessed at 90 days, was the Physical Health Summary Score, which showed no significant improvement.
  • Findings may guide future research on monoclonal antibodies aimed at addressing viral persistence in Long COVID.
