Sea cucumber protein improves aging signs by affecting the brain and gut communication in older mice

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Sea cucumber polypeptide may slow age-related declines in movement, learning, and memory while improving gut and brain aging markers in mice.

Evidence

This preclinical intervention study in naturally aging C57BL/6J mice used behavioral testing, 16S rRNA profiling, LC-MS metabolomics, histology, immunohistochemistry, and brain RNA-seq.

Caveat

The findings are from a mouse model, so translational benefit for human healthy longevity remains unproven.
