Abstract
Treatment with 300 µg/mL Moringa oleifera leaf extract significantly reduced the number of senescent cells in an Alzheimer's disease model.
- Senescent cells in the ageing brain contribute to Alzheimer's disease progression by promoting inflammation and neurodegeneration.
- SH-SY5Y cells exposed to 20 µM amyloid-β oligomers displayed increased markers of cellular senescence.
- Moringa oleifera leaf extract reduced the expression of senescence-associated molecular markers in treated cells.
- The extract also induced cell death in senescent cells while decreasing the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines.
- These findings indicate that Moringa oleifera may target senescent cells and reduce inflammation in the context of Alzheimer's disease.
