Once-weekly semaglutide’s impact on artery inflammation in people with type 2 diabetes and heart disease

Updated

Abstract

In a trial with 101 patients, no significant treatment differences were observed between semaglutide and placebo for carotid plaque inflammation at week 26.

  • Patients had a mean age of 66 years, with 87.1% being male.
  • The study utilized PET-MRI with specific tracers to assess plaque inflammation.
  • No significant changes were detected in plaque inflammation using either tracer at the 26-week mark.
  • The estimated treatment differences for the tracers were close to zero, indicating no observable effect.
  • The lack of detected effect may be due to minimal baseline inflammation in participants.
