Possible link between semaglutide use and sudden vision loss

Updated

Abstract

Of 73,636 global reports related to Semaglutide, 91 cases were associated with Non-Arteritic Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy (NAION).

  • Most reported NAION cases involved patients aged 45-74 years, with 54.90% of cases in this age group.
  • The majority of NAION cases (97.80%) were classified as serious.
  • Denmark reported the highest number of NAION cases (N = 38, 41.80%), followed by Australia (N = 9, 9.90%) and France (N = 7, 7.70%).
  • Co-reported serious eye-related conditions included visual impairment (N = 12, 13.20%) and blindness (N = 9, 9.90%).
  • This information highlights the need for increased awareness of potential vision-related side effects associated with Semaglutide.
