Semaglutide's effects on weight and insulin needs in two teens with type 1 diabetes

Updated

Abstract

Both adolescents achieved notable improvements in glycemic control, weight, and insulin requirement after 12 months of GLP-1RA therapy.

  • Two case reports highlight the potential benefits of adding GLP-1 receptor agonist therapy to insulin pump treatment.
  • Both individuals, aged 17 and 12, experienced marked weight gain and suboptimal glycemic control prior to treatment.
  • Following the addition of GLP-1RA therapy, improvements were observed in metabolic control and body weight management.
  • No adverse events were reported during the 12-month treatment period.
  • Further research is necessary to determine optimal dosing and long-term safety, including effects on body composition and growth.
