Abstract

Astrocytes from a rodent model of Alzheimer's disease show elevated levels of senescence markers after streptozotocin treatment.

  • Increased levels of p53, p21, and p16 were detected in astrocytes from the streptozotocin-treated animals.
  • Cultured astrocytes exhibited reduced glutamine synthetase and glutathione levels compared to controls.
  • Elevations in transcription factors FOXO3a, Nrf2, and NF-κB were observed in the astrocytes from the streptozotocin model.
  • Markers associated with the unfolded protein response, such as CHOP and sorcin, were increased in treated astrocytes.
  • Modulations in TNFα and extracellular proteins HMGB1 and S100B indicated an induced senescent profile in astrocytes.
