Senolytic drugs dasatinib and quercetin reduce kidney inflammation, harmful aging cells, and damage while restoring protective factors in diabetic mouse kidneys

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Dasatinib plus quercetin reduced kidney injury, inflammation, and senescence markers in diabetic kidney disease models.

Evidence

This preclinical study tested a 5-day oral dasatinib plus quercetin regimen in streptozotocin-induced male C57BL/6J diabetic mice and high glucose-treated human tubular epithelial, endothelial, and macrophage cell models.

Caveat

The kidney benefits were shown in mouse and cell models, while the cited human pilot data concerned systemic inflammation and fat tissue rather than diabetic kidney outcomes.
