Abstract

The serotonin 1B receptor (5-HT1BR) may influence how psilocybin affects behavior and brain activity.

  • 5-HT1BR expression affects brain activity after psilocybin, particularly in areas related to emotions and cognition.
  • Mice without 5-HT1BR showed less reduced movement in response to psilocybin compared to those with the receptor.
  • 5-HT1BR may also play a role in the long-term effects of psilocybin on anhedonia and anxiety-like behaviors.
  • Differences in sex and stress conditions were noted, but 5-HT1BR consistently influenced some behavioral responses.
  • Neural circuits were identified that could explain how 5-HT1BR mediates psilocybin's effects.
