Use of SGLT2 Inhibitors and Metformin before COVID and the Risk of Long COVID in People with Type 2 Diabetes

Essence

Prior SGLT2 inhibitor or metformin use in type 2 diabetes was associated with lower post-acute COVID risks.

Evidence

This retrospective nationwide claims cohort analyzed 71698 patients with type 2 diabetes using overlap weighting and competing-risks models for outcomes 31 to 300 days after infection.

Caveat

Medication use was not randomized and outcomes came from claims, so residual confounding and misclassification could explain part of the associations.
