Shen-fu Injection May Reduce Heart Damage by Adjusting Cell Recycling Controlled by Low Oxygen Pathways

Abstract

Shen-fu Injection (SFI) significantly reduces the area of myocardial infarction and improves cardiac function in a rat model of ischemia-reperfusion injury.

  • HIF-1α and BNIP3 are identified as key targets in myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury (MIRI).
  • SFI upregulates HIF-1α expression, which promotes moderate mitophagy to clear damaged mitochondria.
  • This clearance process is associated with a reduction in cardiomyocyte apoptosis and myocardial injury.
  • SFI also lowers reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and stabilizes mitochondrial membrane potential.
  • The use of SFI leads to a decrease in autophagosome accumulation, suggesting improved cellular health.
