Abstract

The wound healing rate reached 99% by the eighth day with the Ag-functionalized chitosan hydrogel.

  • Bacterial infections during wound healing can delay recovery, highlighting the need for effective wound dressings.
  • The proposed hydrogel dressing combines silver nanoparticles and chitosan to provide antibacterial effects and promote healing.
  • It demonstrates excellent properties such as injectability, self-healing, and sustained release of silver over 7 days.
  • In a mouse model, the hydrogel significantly outperformed the control group in wound healing speed.
  • Hydrogel-treated wounds showed improved re-epithelialization, collagen deposition, and blood vessel formation, alongside reduced inflammation.
