Testing one-time and reusable home devices measuring artery signals for diagnosing obstructive sleep apnea compared to lab sleep studies

Abstract
Data from 100 participants indicated that both the disposable and reusable home sleep apnea tests showed satisfactory agreement with laboratory polysomnography for diagnosing obstructive sleep apnea.
- The disposable home sleep apnea test (HSAT) had a mean bias of 2.04 events/hour for the apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) compared to laboratory polysomnography.
- The reusable HSAT showed a mean bias of 2.91 events/hour for AHI when compared to laboratory polysomnography.
- Oxygen desaturation index 3% mean bias was -0.21/hour for the disposable HSAT and 0.77/hour for the reusable HSAT.
- Total sleep time agreement was satisfactory for the reusable HSAT with a mean bias of 4.18 minutes, but the disposable HSAT had a greater mean bias of 23.7 minutes due to high signal rejection.
- Categorization of OSA severity yielded moderate agreement with laboratory PSG, with kappa values of 0.52 for the disposable HSAT and 0.57 for the reusable HSAT.
