Resveratrol pretreatment significantly reduces ammonia levels in an acute liver failure rat model.

  • Cognitive deficits and motor dysfunction in hepatic encephalopathy are associated with elevated ammonia levels and neuroinflammation.
  • Resveratrol may enhance mitochondrial function, improve insulin sensitivity, and reduce oxidative stress by activating SIRT1.
  • The treatment restores neurotransmitter balance in the brain and modulates the glutamate-NMDAR-NOS-cGMP pathway to decrease excitotoxicity.
  • Resveratrol improves spatial memory and motor coordination in neurobehavioral tests by normalizing iNOS and nNOS expression.
