How Sleep and Body Clock Rhythms Relate to Spine Disc Wear and Tear

Updated

Abstract

Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) is a significant factor in the global prevalence of low back pain.

  • Sleep abnormalities and circadian rhythm disorders are common and may be linked to IDD.
  • The bidirectional associations between sleep issues and IDD have not been fully understood.
  • Existing studies suggest a mutual regulatory relationship between sleep patterns and IDD.
  • Potential intervention strategies to address these associations are discussed.
