Sleep deprivation enhanced TREM2-dependent Aβ plaque deposition in mice.

  • Chronic sleep loss was linked to increased reactivity of microglia, the brain's immune cells.
  • Microglial abnormalities were observed even in the absence of amyloid-β plaques.
  • Changes in sleep affected lysosomal structure and function in both microglia and neurons.
  • Unique functional pathways related to metabolism were identified as being influenced by sleep deprivation.
  • TREM2 was found to be essential for the observed changes in microglial reactivity and metabolic response.
