Sleep problems may slow down inflammation recovery in Long COVID

Updated

Abstract

Essence

In Long COVID, greater sleep disturbance was associated with lower specialized pro-resolving lipid mediators and a more unresolved inflammatory profile.

Evidence

This small observational study compared 31 Long COVID participants with 8 infected controls and linked PROMIS sleep disturbance scores to fasting morning lipid mediators after a 14-day at-home phase and 24-hour lab stay.

Caveat

The sample was small, the control group had only 8 participants, and the design supports association rather than proving that sleep disturbance causes impaired inflammatory resolution.
