Sleep problems linked to dementia risk: A multicenter study

Updated

Abstract

Midlife insomnia is associated with a 24% increased risk of dementia.

  • Late-life terminal insomnia is linked to a 94% higher risk of dementia.
  • Long sleep duration in late life (>9 hours) is associated with a nearly fourfold increased risk of dementia.
  • Findings suggest that both midlife and late-life sleep disturbances may contribute to dementia risk.
