Slowly Progressing Type 1 Diabetes Managed with Oral Semaglutide for Blood Sugar and Weight Control Along with Changes in Eating Habits

Updated

Abstract

A 23-year-old woman with probable slowly progressive type 1 diabetes mellitus (SPIDDM) experienced significant improvements in glycemic levels and weight after initiating oral semaglutide.

  • The patient had poor glycemic and weight control despite being treated with insulin, dapagliflozin, and metformin.
  • Following treatment with oral semaglutide, insulin could be discontinued.
  • Improvements in eating behavior were also observed after starting oral semaglutide.
  • GLP-1 receptor agonists may represent a beneficial therapeutic option for glucose and weight management in SPIDDM.
