Body type and composition profiles of boys and teen male basketball players
Updated
Abstract
Four hundred forty-nine children and adolescent male basketball players aged 7-17 were studied to assess somatotype and body composition profiles.
- A significant positive relationship exists between body mass, body fat, body mass index, and fat mass with endomorphy and mesomorphy scores.
- Body height is significantly negatively correlated with endomorphy and mesomorphy scores.
- Ectomorphy scores are significantly positively correlated with body height and negatively correlated with other body composition parameters.
- As age increases, body height, body mass, body mass index, and fat mass increase, while body fat, endomorphy, and mesomorphy scores decrease.
- Somatotype scores change from endomorphic mesomorphy (5-7-2) to balanced mesomorphy (3-6-3) with increasing age.
