Steroid Levels in Uterine Muscle and Maternal and Umbilical Blood Before and During Labor
Updated
Abstract
Advanced labor is characterized by a high concentration of estrone in the maternal peripheral vein, umbilical cord, and myometrium.
- Concentrations of estrone and estradiol in the myometrium increased more significantly than progesterone from the second trimester to term pregnancy.
- During labor, umbilical cord concentrations of estradiol, progesterone, and cortisol also rose.
- There were no significant changes in myometrial concentrations of estrone, estradiol, or progesterone during labor.
- In term pregnancies, the myometrial concentration of estrone was found to be higher than that of estradiol.
