Brain structure of emotion control areas in children and teens with bipolar disorder

Updated

Abstract

The right and left subgenual prefrontal cortex (SGPFC) volumes for bipolar patients were 291.27 ± 88.70 mm³ and 284.86 ± 83.98 mm³, respectively.

  • Healthy controls had right and left SGPFC volumes of 284.95 ± 73.33 mm³ and 307.55 ± 73.67 mm³, respectively.
  • No significant differences in SGPFC volumes were observed between bipolar patients and healthy controls.
  • Findings suggest no evidence of volumetric abnormalities in the SGPFC among bipolar children and adolescents.
