How thinking problems, test results, mental health, and quality of life relate in children with long COVID

Updated

Abstract

Pediatric patients with long COVID reported a very low overall quality of life, with an average score of 52.41.

  • Subjective cognitive difficulties significantly predicted lower quality of life in this cohort.
  • Cognitive test performance did not significantly correlate with quality of life scores.
  • Quality of life scores surpassed the published clinical cutoff for children with major chronic health conditions.
  • The findings suggest a need for screening of perceived cognitive impairment in youth with long COVID, independent of psychiatric symptoms.
  • Consideration of self-reported cognitive difficulties and psychological health is important for treatment and school planning.
