Targeted removal of aging cells using enzyme-triggered breakdown and inside-cell polymer formation

Updated

Abstract

Essence

A dual-responsive supramolecular system may selectively kill senescent cells by activating under elevated alkaline phosphatase and reactive oxygen species and disrupting mitochondria.

Evidence

Preclinical cell and AMD-relevant model experiments tested -Mito-1 in senescent versus normal retinal pigment epithelial cells, with selective senescent-cell cytotoxicity and localized depletion without overt local toxicity.

Caveat

The evidence is still preclinical, and the abstract does not establish human efficacy, durability, or systemic safety.
