Analysis of immune cell clusters and their environment in esophageal cancer patients

Updated

Abstract

ESCC patients with mature tertiary lymphoid structures (TLS) had better prognosis compared to those without.

  • The study quantified TLS scores, specifically TLS_9 and TLS_12, which reflect immune cell presence and TLS formation.
  • Both TLS_9 and TLS_12 scores showed positive correlations with various immune cells, including CD8+ T cells and M1 macrophages.
  • A negative correlation was found between TLS scores and immune exclusion, while a positive correlation was noted with immune dysfunction.
  • TLS scores significantly affected cancer-associated fibroblast (CAF) infiltration and were associated with genomic burden and tumor stemness.
  • The presence of mature TLS in ESCC was linked to a more inflamed immune microenvironment.
