How Terahertz Waves May Change Psychedelic Effects on Serotonin Receptors

Updated

Abstract

Irradiation at 42.4 and 48.6 THz selectively enhanced the binding affinity of psychedelics LSD and psilocin to specific serotonin receptors.

  • Specific terahertz frequencies were found to stabilize receptor-ligand interactions by enhancing vibrational modes of a key molecular group.
  • In vitro assays demonstrated that these frequencies increased signaling through serotonin receptors associated with LSD and psilocin.
  • The effects of irradiation extended the predicted residence times for most receptor-ligand combinations, suggesting increased binding stability.
  • In contrast, 48.6 THz irradiation reduced the predicted residence time of LSD at one of the receptors.
  • Kinetic changes were linked to decreased flexibility in a specific part of the receptor structure.
