Tirzepatide reduces artery changes after injury in mice with and without diabetes, compared to semaglutide

Abstract

Tirzepatide suppressed intimal hyperplasia in non-diabetic mice at a low dose that did not alter metabolic parameters.

  • In non-diabetic mice, tirzepatide demonstrated significant vasoprotective effects, unlike semaglutide, which did not affect intimal hyperplasia at the same dose.
  • The vasoprotective effects of tirzepatide were negated by the nitric oxide synthase inhibitor L-NAME.
  • In diabetic mice, both tirzepatide and semaglutide improved metabolic parameters and reduced intimal hyperplasia similarly.
  • Tirzepatide increased nitric oxide production in human umbilical vein endothelial cells in a dose-dependent manner, even under high blood sugar conditions.
  • Tirzepatide and liraglutide produced comparable levels of nitric oxide at equivalent doses.
