Tirzepatide and Lower Risk of Diabetic Eye Disease and Related Problems in a U.S. Patient Group

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Tirzepatide use was linked to lower 12-month risk of new or worsening diabetic retinopathy and related eye interventions than lifestyle intervention alone.

Evidence

This population-based retrospective TriNetX U.S. cohort matched 86,923 tirzepatide users with 86,923 similar patients receiving lifestyle intervention alone and compared diabetic retinopathy diagnoses, progression, and ocular interventions.

Caveat

The study is observational and based on matched electronic health records, so residual confounding and outcome-coding limits can still affect the comparison.
