Tomatidine may improve thinking and reduce aging cells in old mice
Updated
Abstract
Essence
Tomatidine reduced senescence-related changes and improved frailty, movement, and cognition in aged mice.
Evidence
A natural-product screen, senescent human endothelial cell and fibroblast assays, and an aged-mouse study found senomorphic suppression of SASP markers and lower p16, p21, telomere-associated DNA damage foci, neuroinflammation, and microglial activation.
Caveat
The functional benefits were shown in mice, while the human data were limited to cell assays, so clinical efficacy and mechanism in people remain untested.
