Links between toxic metals and high uric acid levels in older adults from rural China

Updated

Abstract

In a study of 2075 rural older adults, the toxic metal mixture was associated with an increased odds ratio of hyperuricemia (HUA) of 1.15.

  • Individual toxic metals cesium (Cs) and lead (Pb) showed positive associations with HUA, with odds ratios of 1.65 and 1.46, respectively.
  • A positive linear relationship between Cs and Pb and HUA was identified using statistical modeling.
  • The analysis indicated a significant correlation between the overall toxic metal mixture and HUA, with an estimated odds ratio of 1.84.
  • Both Cs and Pb were identified as the primary contributors to the association with HUA.
  • An interaction effect between Cs and Pb on HUA was also observed.
