Gene activity changes in the mud crab's liver-like organ after infection with mud crab dicistrovirus-1

Abstract

A total of 5139 differentially expressed genes were identified in the hepatopancreas of mud crabs infected with mud crab dicistrovirus-1 (MCDV-1).

  • Infection with MCDV-1 resulted in 3327 genes being upregulated and 1812 genes being downregulated.
  • Mud crabs may resist MCDV-1 by activating immune-related pathways, such as the MAPK signaling pathway.
  • MCDV-1 infection is associated with metabolic disorders in the host, inhibiting several immune-related vitamin metabolism pathways.
  • Activation of endocytosis-related pathways suggests a potential mechanism for MCDV-1 entry into host cells.
  • Nine hub genes linked to viral endocytosis were identified and significantly upregulated following MCDV-1 infection.
