Use and health features of U.S. patients with type 2 diabetes and kidney disease taking finerenone

Abstract

Among 3,591 new finerenone users, 56.0% remained on finerenone at 12 months.

  • The mean age of new finerenone users was 72.2 years, with 47.5% being female.
  • Most patients (62.4%) had stage 3 chronic kidney disease (CKD), and 86.5% of those with recorded urine albumin-to-creatine ratio had moderate or severe albuminuria.
  • Commonly used medications prior to finerenone initiation included renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system inhibitors (80.0%), sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (41.4%), and glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (30.2%).
  • Finerenone was often prescribed in combination with other medications, with 58.5% initiated as an add-on to renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system inhibitors.
  • Monotherapy with finerenone was infrequent, occurring in only 8.5% of new users.
